According to The Pulse Of Radio, Eddie Vedder has given a struggling Maryland family $10,000 after the mother pleaded for help from strangers on Craigslist. An article about the family of seven was published by the Washington Post on December 19 and went viral, detailing single mother Tyshika Britten's desperate attempt on Craigslist to raise money to buy Christmas gifts for her six children and also stave off eviction. The PEARL JAM singer told the Post: "I was just so moved by the story and what this mother did for her children. I thought those kids must be so proud of their mother for reaching out. That takes a lot of courage." Vedder said he wanted to provide a "tourniquet" to the family, adding that he had seen his share of tough holidays as a child. He explained: "There were years there were toys from Santa, but they were used and they came from garage sales and they didn't always work." Britten, a hairstylist, wrote in her original plea: "I am a mother of six, 5 boys and 1 baby girl… I'm so hurt. I'm trying my best. I pray everyday and now I'm begging for help. I know it's not about the gifts, but they are kids! I'm such a failure right now . . . please help me." Britten and her family did not know who Vedder was when they received his check, with Britton asking, "Is he in a band?" The family has since looked up Vedder on Google and has been watching PEARL JAM shows online. Vedder is not the only person to reach out to Britten and her children, with the family receiving gifts ranging from a Kindle to a puppy. A GoFundMe page for the family has also raised over $18,000 for a "head start," triple its $6,000 goal. PEARL JAM will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in April.
